An independent resource for UCLA students

Turn a UCLA proof or data project into a focused job search

A fluent answer can contain an invalid mathematical step. UCLA's Data Theory major combines Mathematics with Statistics and Data Science, including proof-based mathematics and practical data projects. Students who have developed those skills can use them to judge which AI tasks they are ready to attempt. Choose a role by the reasoning it asks you to perform, then check its degree and experience criteria.

Plan around your academic calendar

UCLA's annual calendar separates quarter start, instruction and final examinations. Plan from your current quarter and course deadlines. A quarter ending soon is a reason to check assessment timing before starting an application.

View UCLA’s official academic calendar →
  1. Make a two-week deadline view

List upcoming problem sets, exams and group deliverables. Choose a small search window outside the busiest days. Revisit the plan when a new assignment changes your workload.

  2. Build an error-analysis sample

Write an original short solution with one deliberately incorrect step, then explain the correction. Choose a topic you understand well. Keep this separate from graded coursework and protected course solutions.

  3. Compare assessment demands

Read the assessment instructions before reserving time. Check whether it is timed, whether tools are permitted and whether the submission deadline leaves room for your next class obligation.

A planning example, not a promised work schedule

Hypothetical example: a Data Theory student with a Friday problem set spends Wednesday's 20-minute search block saving one relevant role. They prepare an original reasoning sample on Sunday after the assignment. During an exam week, they pause applications. This is a personal planning example, not a paid-work schedule promised by a platform.

Connect your studies to the work

Mathematics and statistics evaluation

Look for tasks where you can verify assumptions and inspect each reasoning step. Prepare to explain a counterexample or an unsupported statistical inference, not just produce a final answer.

Reproducible programming work

For a coding role, identify a project you can rebuild and test. A strong mathematical background helps you assess the task, but the listing's language and software experience still matter.

Explore related roles →

Clear explanations across subjects

Compare broader roles if you can explain technical material to a particular audience. Check what counts as an acceptable response and how reviewers handle an ambiguous prompt.

These are ways to compare your skills with a role. A major or enrollment alone does not satisfy an employer’s degree or experience criteria.

Ask before you commit

  • Can I explain exactly which assumption makes an answer valid or invalid?
  • Does the assessment fit this quarter's workload, including time to read its rules?

Check minimum hours, deadlines, meetings, location and equipment in the full listing. Remote work does not automatically mean flexible hours, guaranteed tasks or permission to work from any country.

UCLA student questions

Are these jobs offered or endorsed by UCLA?

No. SignalGigs is an independent resource and is not affiliated with University of California, Los Angeles. These are third-party listings from the same wider job inventory shown to other schools, not campus jobs or university-endorsed opportunities.

Does studying a STEM subject mean I qualify?

A relevant major is a starting point for comparing the work. Each role sets its own requirements, which may include a completed degree, postgraduate study, research experience, particular software skills or years of professional work. Student status alone does not establish eligibility. Read the full requirements before applying.

Can international students on an F-1 visa do this work?

Check the specific role with the University of California, Los Angeles international student office or your designated school official before starting work. Your status, authorization and the type of engagement matter. A remote label or a listing on this page does not establish work authorization. This page does not provide immigration advice.

How should I compare pay and availability?

Use the stated pay and its unit on each listing, then check the hours, contract terms and selection process. An advertised top rate is not a guaranteed starting rate or weekly income. Project availability and the amount of paid work can vary.

Will these roles fit around classes or let me work from anywhere?

Check each role. Locations, eligible countries, time zones, required hours and onsite commitments vary. A remote role may still restrict where you can work, and some roles require a full-time commitment.
