An independent resource for ASU students

Build an ASU job-search plan that survives a session change

The hours you have in Session A may disappear when Session B begins. ASU's calendar uses shorter A and B sessions alongside full-semester C courses. Check the session mix on your own schedule before assessing outside work. For students with an informatics background, ASU's emphasis on systems that meet human needs also offers a useful starting point: can you explain why an AI response helps or frustrates its intended user?

Plan around your academic calendar

Fall and spring Sessions A and B run for 7.5 weeks each; Session C spans the full semester. The Registrar advises checking individual course deadlines in My ASU for classes outside those standard sessions. Build your availability from your actual courses.

  1. Check both sides of the session boundary

Compare your current workload with the next session's assignments and meeting times. Set availability for the busier period if a proposed commitment would span both.

  2. Make a small usability review

Write an original user request and two possible responses. Explain which response serves the goal better and why. Include factual checks, rather than judging style alone.

  3. Price the time before accepting

Record assessment time, onboarding tasks and any weekly minimum alongside the work itself. Confirm which activities are paid and how task availability works before making a commitment.

A planning example, not a promised work schedule

Hypothetical example: an ASU student taking a C-session course and a B-session course reserves one short Sunday block to compare roles. They prepare a response-review sample after checking both syllabi. They do not promise extra availability based on a lighter earlier session. This is planning advice, not a claim that a platform offers adjustable hours.

Connect your studies to the work

Human-centered response review

Compare roles that ask you to judge a response against a user's goal. Practice separating accuracy, clarity and usefulness. An informatics course can guide your preparation but does not establish employer eligibility.

Software and tool evaluation

Look for a clear match between the listing's technical stack and code you can inspect. Describe how a failure affects a user and write a test that reproduces it.

Scientific subject evaluation

Use this route when you have depth in the named discipline. Read the degree and experience criteria carefully; a general interest in AI is not enough for a specialist science role.

These are ways to compare your skills with a role. A major or enrollment alone does not satisfy an employer’s degree or experience criteria.

Ask before you commit

  • Will this commitment still fit after my next session or course workload changes?
  • Can I explain an AI response's usefulness with evidence rather than a personal preference?

Check minimum hours, deadlines, meetings, location and equipment in the full listing. Remote work does not automatically mean flexible hours, guaranteed tasks or permission to work from any country.

ASU student questions

Are these jobs offered or endorsed by ASU?

No. SignalGigs is an independent resource and is not affiliated with Arizona State University. These are third-party listings from the same wider job inventory shown to other schools, not campus jobs or university-endorsed opportunities.

Does studying a STEM subject mean I qualify?

A relevant major is a starting point for comparing the work. Each role sets its own requirements, which may include a completed degree, postgraduate study, research experience, particular software skills or years of professional work. Student status alone does not establish eligibility. Read the full requirements before applying.

Can international students on an F-1 visa do this work?

Check the specific role with the Arizona State University international student office or your designated school official before starting work. Your status, authorization and the type of engagement matter. A remote label or a listing on this page does not establish work authorization. This page does not provide immigration advice.

How should I compare pay and availability?

Use the stated pay and its unit on each listing, then check the hours, contract terms and selection process. An advertised top rate is not a guaranteed starting rate or weekly income. Project availability and the amount of paid work can vary.

Will these roles fit around classes or let me work from anywhere?

Check each role. Locations, eligible countries, time zones, required hours and onsite commitments vary. A remote role may still restrict where you can work, and some roles require a full-time commitment.
