Description

Aerodynamics and AI evaluation

Create, solve, review, and validate engineering tasks involving computational fluid dynamics, aerodynamic analysis, simulation, and Python. Tasks must be workable through programmatic or command-line workflows.

A representative task may analyze an airfoil, prepare a computational domain and mesh, define boundary conditions, run CFD, calculate lift and drag, and check whether the resulting flow field is physically and numerically valid.

Responsibilities

  • Translate aerodynamic and fluid dynamics requirements into computational models and solver-ready cases.
  • Create or modify geometries, domains, and meshes.
  • Set initial and boundary conditions, fluid properties, and solver parameters.
  • Run aerodynamic analysis using tools accessible through command-line interfaces.
  • Automate preprocessing, simulation runs, parameter sweeps, postprocessing, and validation with Python.

Qualifications

  • An MS or PhD in aerospace engineering, or in mechanical engineering with an aerodynamics, fluid dynamics, or thermofluids specialization; alternatively, a relevant BS plus at least one to two years of aerodynamics-specific professional or research experience.
  • Strong fluid mechanics and applied aerodynamics knowledge, practical Python skills, and experience executing CFD or aerodynamic analyses.
  • Experience with an engineering tool available through a CLI, scripting interface, configuration files, or programmatic API.
  • Ability to justify assumptions, boundary conditions, mesh strategies, and solver settings.
  • Ability to diagnose non-convergence, instability, incorrect results, and physically invalid outputs, and explain technical tradeoffs clearly.

Relevant tools include OpenFOAM, SU2, Gmsh, FEniCSx, Elmer, CalculiX, SciPy, and similar engineering software. Equivalent tools with command-line access are accepted.

Python tools may include NumPy, SciPy, pandas, Matplotlib, Jupyter, solver APIs, mesh-processing libraries, or other scientific packages. No single library is mandatory.

Contract and selection

Work remotely worldwide for approximately 15 hours a week, choosing hours and days, including weekends. The advertised range is $80 to $120 per hour, while actual payment is for tasks meeting specifications; completion time varies and minimum submission requirements apply.

Selection includes screening questions, an AI interview of approximately 30 minutes, and hiring manager review. Immediate availability is preferred, with the first task expected within 24 to 48 hours after onboarding.
