Software Engineering Expert

Engineering scope

Build and improve the internal systems that help engineering teams develop, deploy and operate software. The work spans developer experience, reliability, IT systems and reusable infrastructure, with direct collaboration across engineering teams.

Workstreams

• CI and reliability: improve pipeline performance, observability and failure visibility; build runner autoscaling, harden systems and implement alerts and notifications.

• CLI and tooling: improve usability, discoverability, telemetry and performance. Make SDKs and shared libraries easier to work with through stable APIs, versioning and templates, and develop visibility into tool usage.

• SaaS and IT: manage tools and configurations, procurement intake and vendor inventories. Administer Google Workspace, SAML single sign-on and SCIM provisioning with role-based access controls.

• Infrastructure templates: build reusable Pulumi modules and service templates, standardize logging, monitoring, tagging and budgets, reduce configuration drift and repeated infrastructure code, and add deployment safety checks.

Experience and availability

Strong Python proficiency and experience with backend systems, infrastructure or developer tooling are required. Relevant knowledge can come from CI/CD systems such as GitHub Actions or Buildkite, CLI tools, identity and provisioning systems, or infrastructure as code with Pulumi or Terraform.

• Work independently, solve problems and reason about systems in a fast-moving engineering environment.

• Commit approximately 20 hours each week.

• Attend two 45 minute meetings weekly, on Monday and Thursday during PST working hours.

The engagement offers part-time flexibility and ownership of infrastructure and developer experience work used by engineering teams.
