Forward Deployed Engineer, U.S. Government

The work

Build applied AI from experimentation through production for US government missions. Work directly with strategic partners in demanding operational environments and own systems across architecture, deployment, security and continued improvement.

• Develop and deploy agentic systems from prototypes to operational production.
• Integrate LLM applications, multiple agents, tool use, RAG and autonomy with human oversight.
• Translate government mission needs into technical systems through direct work with partners.
• Build large data curation and evaluation pipelines for training and improvement.
• Develop infrastructure for inference, experiments, evaluations and deployment across advanced AI environments.
• Connect mission data, models and tools into functioning autonomous workflows.
• Own discovery, design, implementation, reliability, security and subsequent iteration.

Experience and skills

• Ability to work independently with partners where requirements are uncertain.
• Strong Python engineering and experience owning complete systems.
• Practical work with LLMs and agentic applications.
• Experience building or maintaining data pipelines or ML infrastructure.
• Familiarity with reinforcement learning workflows or simulated environments.
• Comfort with strict security and reliability requirements.
• An active US security clearance, or eligibility and willingness to obtain one, is preferred.
• Government, defense, intelligence or national security mission experience is helpful.
• Startup, defense organization or government focused technology experience is also preferred.

Working arrangements

The position is full time and described as remote, but relocation to the Washington, DC area is required. National base pay is $150,000 to $250,000, with equity eligibility and possible performance bonuses according to role and policy.
