Description
Community contact for language projects
Help connect speakers with paid recording and transcription opportunities for AI speech and language datasets. The work focuses on five languages: Balochi, Guarani, Luxembourgish, Turkmen and Uyghur, with community leads drawn from people already known and trusted by those speakers.
The role suits someone with an established community connection, such as a cultural society or academy leader, language teacher, publication editor, radio host or online group administrator. That existing role is part of the selection discussion and helps explain how you are connected to the language community.
Community responsibilities
- Share information about the available recording and transcription opportunities with speakers in your language community.
- Connect interested speakers with the project through the designated community lead form.
- Act as a contact for questions from community members, communicating with the project team in working English.
- Take part in paid recording or transcription assignments yourself if you choose; this contribution is optional.
The community work involves being comfortable sharing posts and responding to people who ask about participation. Any speakers you connect with the project must be at least 18 years old.
Language and community background
Fluency in at least one of the five named languages is required, together with a recognized community role. The relevant experience can come from education, cultural organizations, publishing, broadcasting or managing a community group; the application should explain the position or organization involved.
Working English is needed for communication with project staff. The community contact responsibilities are distinct from the optional choice to complete your own audio recording or transcription work.
Invitation and selection
An invitation is required to take on the community contact role. After an application review, the process includes a short call with the talent team and a check of the applicant's role or organization.
Approved participants receive a community lead agreement with the full payment details. Signing that agreement precedes the start of speaker introductions through the designated form.
Engagement conditions
This is an independent contractor arrangement without employment benefits. Compensation depends on approved work completed by speakers connected through the community role, so earnings are not guaranteed.
Geographic restrictions can affect participation. People who work for government or public institutions need to follow their employer's rules for outside paid work, and should explain their current role during the application process.
Participation is voluntary, and the project does not publish a list of its community leads.
