Build backend infrastructure for AI workloads

Develop server-side systems and APIs supporting AI training and inference. This opportunity is directed toward backend developers in Recife and elsewhere in Brazil, with independent work on both tasks and larger projects.

• Create and maintain backend services, APIs and data pipelines.
• Design scalable server architecture that delivers reliable performance as workloads grow.
• Produce documented, testable code that follows sound engineering practices.
• Connect services to databases, message queues, cloud resources and third-party APIs.
• Improve processing performance, reliability and capacity as usage increases.
• Diagnose production problems, review code and contribute to architecture decisions.
• Collaborate asynchronously with distributed engineers, researchers and product leads.

Required technical skills

Candidates need proficiency in at least one backend language or runtime, such as Python, Go, Java, Node.js or Rust. A solid understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices and distributed systems is required.

Experience with relational or NoSQL databases is needed, including tools such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB or Redis. You should be comfortable with AWS, GCP or Azure and familiar with Git, CI/CD workflows and container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

The work requires independent debugging of complex systems and dependable delivery without close supervision. Clear documentation and communication across time zones are important for asynchronous collaboration.

Helpful additional experience

Previous infrastructure work for machine learning or AI systems is useful. Data processing tools such as Apache Kafka, Spark and Airflow, along with performance optimization, caching and high-throughput systems, are additional strengths.

Knowledge of authentication, authorization and security practices is valued. Serverless architecture, event-driven designs, open-source contributions or a strong portfolio of personal or professional projects can also support a candidacy.

Contract terms

This is a fully remote hourly contract with a commitment of 10–40 hours per week. Hours are flexible, and assignments can be managed independently on your own schedule.

Work combines backend engineering with AI infrastructure and collaboration among researchers and engineers. Additional projects or contract extensions may be available as new work launches.
