Description

Engineering judgment for AI research

Contribute practical experience in mechanical, manufacturing or quality engineering, or CNC programming, to research on how AI handles engineering work. The opportunity involves evaluating technical content and explaining decisions drawn from professional practice.

Projects can fit around an existing role or studies through remote, part time contracts. Contributors must work from the United States, and project rates can reach $100 per hour.

Work to create and assess

  • Develop advanced engineering problems based on design, analysis, tooling, manufacturing and quality work that has been built, tested or approved.
  • Review AI responses for technical correctness, practical feasibility, suitability for manufacture and consistency with industry standards.
  • Examine models, drawings, tolerances, calculations and simulation outputs for defensibility and whether another reviewer could work from them.
  • Write structured feedback that makes the engineering assessment clear and helps improve AI performance.

Practical experience and education

Applicants may be working mechanical engineers or undergraduate or graduate students. You must have personally produced a part, assembly or analysis that another person used for manufacturing, testing or approval.

The stated degree background is a BS, MS or PhD in mechanical engineering or a closely related engineering subject. CNC programmers do not need a degree, while applicants still working toward a bachelor's degree must have internship experience.

Demonstrated expertise in at least one relevant area is needed:

  • Mechanical design or structural analysis using finite element methods.
  • Thermal engineering and fluid behavior.
  • Tooling and injection molding processes.
  • Manufacturing processes.
  • Sustaining engineering, quality engineering or engineering configuration management.

Additional experience that helps

Useful modeling, simulation and CAM tools include SolidWorks, Creo, NX, CATIA, Inventor, Fusion 360, ANSYS, Abaqus, Nastran, Fluent, STAR-CCM+, OpenFOAM and MATLAB, along with comparable environments. Proficiency in these examples is an additional strength rather than a mandatory tool list.

Experience preparing drawings or models ready for machining, sheet metal, casting, injection molding or additive processes is useful. Work with manufacturers, product design firms, aerospace or defense contractors, or automotive suppliers can also strengthen your background.

Working arrangement

Tasks can be completed at your own pace, without a fixed schedule or minimum hourly requirement. Strong writing, attention to detail and clear explanations of complex mechanical concepts are required for independent work in a remote, asynchronous setting.

Account registration and identity verification are followed by onboarding for relevant projects before paid assignments begin.
