Assess what works are, where they come from and how they should be presented and described. This fully remote contractor opportunity is available worldwide at a rate that needs confirmation.

Work you will assess

• Select works or image sets that fit a particular exhibition, collection or theme.
• Evaluate attribution, dates, medium, editions and print types using the available images and descriptions, including distinctions between vintage and later prints.
• Identify gaps in provenance, questionable attribution and risks involving condition or display.
• Check that titles, labels and descriptions represent the work accurately and fairly.
• Flag potential issues involving rights, consent or ownership and provide concise written reasons for your decisions.

Relevant experience

Professional experience may come from curatorial work, collections or exhibitions roles, gallery direction, auction specialties, art or photographic archives, or registration. Practical experience choosing works, attributing them, planning displays, managing loans or handling acquisitions is important.

For photography, familiarity with photographic processes, prints and editions is expected. Clear written English and the ability to explain exhibition choices or doubts about attribution are essential.

Selection process

Your experience is then assessed against project needs. Selected contributors receive guidelines and complete a first task that is reviewed before further work begins.

Rate discrepancy in the posting

The posting body lists $55 to $100 per hour, while its rate header lists $50 to $105 per hour. Confirm the applicable rate with the hiring company before accepting work.
