Description
The conversation study
Take part in a guided discussion exploring how people communicate and interact in everyday group conversations. Sessions take place in Santa Clara Valley, in California's South Bay, and are open to adults with different accents and first languages.
What happens during a session
- Check in with an on-site coordinator who guides you through the process.
- Talk in a group of two to four people, with a trained moderator leading the discussion.
- Discuss everyday, non-sensitive topics, such as planning a birthday celebration or making routine decisions.
- Spend about 75 minutes in a session recorded on both video and audio for research.
Who can participate
Participants must be aged 18 to 64 and live in or be able to travel to Santa Clara Valley. You should be comfortable conversing in English and being recorded on video and audio; English does not need to be your first language.
You must be able to attend one weekday session between November 2026 and March 2027. Each person can participate once, so previous participants in this study are not eligible. No prior experience is needed.
Payment and booking
The payment is $110 after you complete one 75-minute session. Travel costs are not covered.
A short screening questionnaire is used to check eligibility before an invitation to book. Participation is voluntary, and you may ask questions or withdraw from the study.
