Description
The work
Provide energy and utilities legal analysis for an AI training initiative. The work draws on substantive advice to utilities, independent power producers or regulators, with no prior AI background required.
- Explain legal reasoning on rate design, tariff structures and regulatory obligations.
- Analyze realistic issues arising in FERC, state PUC and ISO/RTO practice, making the basis for conclusions explicit.
- Identify questions that remain unsettled, involve jurisdictional disputes or depend on a decisive factual distinction.
- Check other contributors’ analyses for legal soundness and understandable reasoning.
- Write clear supporting analysis and alert coordinators when a scenario is ambiguous or poorly framed.
- Complete assignments within the agreed schedule and quality requirements.
Experience and skills
- A JD from an ABA accredited school and current admission to a US bar are required.
- At least four years of substantive energy and utilities regulatory practice, with direct work rather than only oversight or adjacent exposure.
- A foundation in corporate law is required; experience gained at a Vault 100 firm is preferred.
Working arrangements
This contractor role can be performed fully remotely from any location while maintaining an active US bar license. Selection consists of screening questions, an AI interview to demonstrate expertise, a profile review and onboarding support.
