AI infrastructure engineering

Design, implement, and scale production software for AI products in a remote role aimed at engineers in Bogotá and elsewhere in Colombia. Projects involve substantive architecture decisions and independent ownership of defined engineering work.

• Build and maintain systems supporting model training, assessment, and deployment.
• Write efficient, tested code in Python, TypeScript, or other modern languages.
• Develop reliable APIs, backend services, and data pipelines that operate at scale.
• Balance delivery speed with architecture that remains maintainable over time.
• Diagnose difficult issues involving distributed systems and cloud infrastructure.
• Coordinate asynchronously with ML engineers, researchers, and product managers.
• Review code and help improve shared engineering practices.

Required experience

At least five years of professional software engineering experience is required. You should be strong in a modern language such as Python, TypeScript or JavaScript, Go, or Java, with a firm grasp of architecture, design patterns, and system design.

Practical experience deploying backend services, APIs, or data-intensive applications is important. You must be comfortable with AWS, GCP, or Azure, container environments, Git, CI/CD, and contemporary development tools.

Effective debugging and problem solving are essential, including finding root causes when requirements or failures are ambiguous. The role also requires clear written decisions, explanations of technical tradeoffs, and reliable delivery without close supervision.

Useful background

Experience in training pipelines, model serving, annotation systems, or evaluation frameworks is helpful. Other relevant areas include Spark, Kafka, Airflow, distributed systems, microservices, event-driven architecture, Terraform, Pulumi, and Kubernetes.

Open-source contributions or a public technical portfolio are welcome. Experience in an engineering team that works remotely and relies heavily on asynchronous communication is also useful.

Contract scope

This fully remote hourly contract requires 20 to 40 hours per week and offers flexible scheduling. You work with engineers and researchers internationally on production systems used at scale, with possible continued work, broader responsibilities, or a longer extension as projects grow.
