Description
Mechanical engineering research in Canada
Develop problems that help AI reason through the same decisions as a practicing mechanical engineer. This remote, part time contract opportunity involves evaluating technical work and explaining your judgment, with ongoing projects that can fit around employment or study.
Compensation can reach $72 per hour, depending on the project. Contributors must be based in Canada, and tasks can be completed at an individual pace without a fixed schedule or minimum number of hours.
Research responsibilities
- Create advanced engineering scenarios based on actual parts, assemblies and analyses that have been manufactured, tested or approved.
- Assess AI responses for technical correctness, practical feasibility, suitability for manufacture and consistency with engineering standards.
- Examine models, drawings, tolerances, calculations and finite element results to determine whether the work is defensible and sufficiently defined for a reviewer to dimension against it.
- Write organized feedback explaining the technical assessment and how the model's performance could improve.
Experience required
Applicants may be practicing mechanical engineers or current undergraduate or graduate students. In either case, you must have personally produced a part, assembly or analysis that another person relied on for manufacturing, testing or approval.
The degree background is a BS, MS or PhD in mechanical engineering or a closely related engineering field. Those still completing a bachelor's degree need internship experience.
Demonstrated depth is needed in at least one of these areas:
- Parametric solid models created to specified tolerances.
- Interpreting drawings using geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Mechanical design calculations grounded in applicable standards.
- Finite element analysis checked against calculations performed by hand.
Helpful additional experience
Experience with SolidWorks, Creo, NX, CATIA, Inventor, Fusion 360, ANSYS, Abaqus, Nastran, MATLAB or similar tools is useful. Drawings or models prepared for machining, sheet metal, casting, injection molding or additive manufacturing can also strengthen an application.
A background with a manufacturer, product design practice, aerospace or defense contractor, or automotive supplier is relevant. These additional qualifications are helpful rather than mandatory.
Working style and onboarding
Clear written explanations, attention to detail and the ability to describe complex mechanical ideas are essential. You should be comfortable working independently on an asynchronous remote schedule.
The process includes account registration, identity confirmation and onboarding for relevant projects before paid task work begins.
