What you will evaluate

• Compare set concepts, room arrangements or production designs against a script, brief and budget.
• Check scale, layout, sightlines, colors and materials, including how the space would function for performers and camera work.
• Identify issues likely to become visible during production, such as a set that does not support the shot, a material that looks artificial on camera or objects from the wrong period.
• Judge the fit with the story, setting and spending limits, then write concise reasons for each decision.

Professional background

Relevant roles include production designer, set designer, art director, set decorator, assistant art director and theatre designer. You need experience designing, constructing or decorating sets for actual productions.

That experience should include scripts or briefs, budgeting, builds, shoot or installation days and coordination with other departments. Clear written English and confidence explaining why one design works better than another are important.

Comfort with SketchUp, AutoCAD, Vectorworks, Rhino or Photoshop can support the work, as can strong drafting by hand. Familiarity with every listed tool is not required.
