Senior DoD Staff Writing SME

The work

Contribute defense staff writing expertise to AI training through realistic prompts, documents and reference answers. Help evaluate whether generated reporting meets the accuracy, tone and compliance expectations of federal work. No AI background is required.

• Create prompts, source artifacts and model answers for Weekly Activity Reports, Situation Reports, executive summaries and performance reporting.
• Develop scoring guidance reflecting defense writing standards and expected compliance.
• Produce realistic report documents across operational and administrative settings.
• Design and review tests of summarization and reporting tasks performed by federal personnel.
• Refine prompts, answers and assessment rubrics as project needs and model results evolve.
• Recreate weekly, monthly and ad hoc reporting formats using back office and communications experience.

Preferred experience and skills

• Preferred candidates previously contributed to US defense department work and have at least three years of relevant experience.
• Experience preparing WARs, SITREPs, executive summaries or comparable recurring reports.
• A background in one of the six US military branches; experience across roles and units is valued.
• Excellent written and spoken communication with language suited to the audience.
• Familiarity with back office processes and producing PowerPoint briefings, memos and Excel summaries.
• Analytical ability to critique generated staff writing constructively.
• US residence and knowledge of federal compliance, reporting obligations and DoD terminology and workflows.
