Description

Enterprise desktop publishing

Manage desktop publishing requirements for major enterprise customers whose needs are highly customized. Develop a detailed understanding of each account and ensure that every project follows its instructions and quality expectations.

Work closely with client reviewers, project managers and typesetters so the final files meet the agreed specifications. Communicate clearly about design changes, technical limitations and delivery timing.

Production responsibilities

  • Apply formatting and design to translated material in multiple languages while maintaining the source document’s appearance and the client’s requirements.
  • Prepare content for translation by extracting and arranging it in the required formats, including InDesign, Illustrator, Word and PowerPoint files.
  • Adapt images, charts, graphs and other visual material to the language and regional requirements of the target version.
  • Resolve problems involving fonts, layout, image compatibility and other design elements affected by translation or technical constraints.
  • Convert between file types while preserving the original layout as closely as required.
  • Keep different document versions organized so the correct material is delivered.

Quality ownership

Conduct detailed reviews for errors, consistency, adherence to client guidance and industry standards. Develop review workflows, implement feedback and manage quality frameworks that can be tracked at account level.

Maintain feedback records and update instructions or training materials after review findings. The role requires the ability to notice very small differences between source and target files and to make those observations useful for future production.

Experience and software

At least 5 years of desktop publishing experience in a language service or localization setting is required. Strong skills in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, QuarkXPress, Microsoft Office and related publishing software are expected; FrameMaker is also among the tools used in the work.

You need fluency in Chinese using either simplified or traditional script. Confidence managing multiple file formats, substantial datasets and several document versions is necessary.

Collaboration and professional strengths

Clear written and verbal communication supports work with colleagues and clients. Strong analytical problem solving is needed when formatting or design issues arise across languages.

You should manage multiple projects and tight deadlines in a busy environment while keeping layouts accurate and consistent. Experience creating quality frameworks, organizing reviews, implementing feedback and improving team instructions is central to the role.

A degree or certification in graphic design, desktop publishing or a related discipline is preferred. Previous work on multilingual and multicultural projects is an additional advantage.

The broader work offers varied international assignments, professional connections and opportunities to develop localization publishing skills, with prompt payment described in the source.
