Contribute practical knowledge of benefit determination and evidence review to a remote contractor project that trains AI systems. The work focuses on disability compensation claims and the reasoning behind defensible decisions.

Assessment responsibilities

• Review AI generated claims and assess the completeness of the evidence against applicable regulatory guidance.
• Examine medical documentation produced by AI and determine how it affects existing disability claims, weighing complex evidence carefully.
• Prepare detailed benefit determinations with precise written rationales for training material.
• Check claims decisions for inconsistencies and errors against VA standards.
• Access, update and manage claim files and supporting records through VBMS or similar specialist systems.
• Simulate higher level reviews, drawing on appeals and supplemental claims experience, and provide constructive spoken and written feedback.

Preferred background

Experience as a Veterans Service Representative or in an equivalent role is preferred, particularly in gathering evidence and determining benefits. Familiarity with GS-0996 Veterans Claims Examining, GS-0105 Social Insurance Administration or GS-0512 Internal Revenue Agent functions is relevant.

Useful experience includes disability compensation evaluation, claim rating within a regulated setting, VBMS or comparable claims systems, and quality assurance in federal, state or related agencies. The ability to combine complex information into clear decisions for higher level review is especially valuable.
