Freelance Linguist: Punjabi-India/Pakistan (Gurumukhi & Shahmukhi)

Translation and language quality

Help maintain accurate, consistent Punjabi content through translation, review and quality assurance. The work combines detailed editing with support for other linguists and the processes that guide their assignments.

• Translate Punjabi material and review completed translations for accuracy, consistency and the required style.
• Edit copy, carry out linguistic checks and give translators clear, constructive feedback.
• Keep glossaries, style guides and work instructions accurate and current.
• Answer language questions from translators, project managers and other collaborators, clarifying terminology and style issues.
• Assist with onboarding, training and development of linguists and freelancers when needed.
• Help improve review methods and quality processes, meet the role's quality and productivity measures, and deliver the goals set by language or squad leads.

Experience and qualifications

Punjabi fluency at native level and strong spoken and written English are required. You should have at least three years of experience in translation, review or localization and understand how localization and review workflows operate.

A university degree in translation, applied languages or linguistics is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong review and editing skills, attention to detail and terminology management knowledge in at least one subject area are important.

Tools and collaboration

• Be comfortable working in Windows and Microsoft Office.
• Have practical experience with CAT tools such as XTM, SDL Studio, PolyGlot, MateCat, ATMS or fbCAT, and with tools for managing queries or issues such as JIRA.
• Learn new localization software quickly and adapt to changes in the tools used.
• Handle varied language problems, maintain clear written and spoken communication, and work effectively against tight deadlines.

The role involves collaboration in a virtual team spanning different countries. Communicate positively with clients and other stakeholders, and be willing to train or mentor colleagues when required.
