Physics Subject Matter Expert – AI Training Specialist

Build rigorous physics evaluations

Develop problems and evaluate AI reasoning in mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics and quantum physics. The remote opportunity is aimed at physics specialists in Johannesburg and across South Africa, with work spanning undergraduate through master's level material.

Scientific contributions

• Design demanding physics questions with sound assumptions and a rigorous structure.
• Write clear solutions that make each reasoning step and logical connection explicit.
• Judge generated answers for scientific correctness, depth of reasoning and explanatory quality.
• Refine benchmarks with researchers and give specific feedback on where the model's reasoning should improve.

Required background

You should be pursuing or have completed a master's degree in physics, applied physics or a closely related subject. The listing cites the University of the Witwatersrand, UCT, the University of Pretoria or equivalent institutions as relevant academic backgrounds.

Strong reasoning across several advanced physics domains and clear technical writing are required. You need a systematic approach to accuracy and the independence to work asynchronously.

Prior AI experience is not required. Helpful backgrounds include research, tutoring, technical writing, academic content creation, data annotation or evaluation, and familiarity with AI or machine learning concepts.

Remote contract terms

This is an hourly contract with a commitment of ten to 40 hours per week. Scheduling is flexible and asynchronous, with independent work alongside a global research collaboration.

Ongoing renewals or a broader project scope may be possible. The supplied description does not state a pay rate.
