Merchandising Category Management Specialist

The work

You'll help AI research reflect the way merchandising, category management and buying works in practice. Your experience will inform training material and assessments of AI content, with feedback focused on accuracy and relevance to actual retail work.

• Create expert training data from the professional processes and tools you already know.
• Review AI responses against real working practices and explain where the content needs to improve.
• Draw on these workflows: Assess pricing strategy, including tariffs and competitive prices; improve markdown decisions and analyze past results; plan promotional campaigns.

Relevant experience

At least two years of professional experience in merchandising, category management and buying is needed. Relevant backgrounds include Merchandiser, Merchandise Planner, Category Manager or Buyer, or comparable retail roles.

The work calls for firsthand familiarity with the workflows above, careful written communication and close attention to detail. You must be comfortable completing assignments independently and collaborating with AI researchers on an asynchronous basis; previous AI work is not a prerequisite.

Pay and participation

Compensation can reach $80 per hour, with the applicable rate determined by the project. This is an ongoing pool of hourly, project-based contract opportunities rather than a conventional staff position.

The work is fully remote and part time, with scheduling left flexible. There is no weekly minimum; contributors on an active project commonly spend around 5–20 hours a week, allowing participation alongside industry employment, teaching, research or postdoctoral work.

Assignments depend on current project requirements, and contributors may also be considered for later opportunities. Getting started involves account registration, identity verification and onboarding to a suitable project before paid work begins.
