Mathematics Expert (Masters/PhDs)

The work

Develop, solve, and review advanced mathematics problems to improve AI reasoning. This remote hourly contract involves 10 to 40 hours per week and draws on graduate expertise in algebra, calculus, statistics, discrete mathematics, or related areas.

Responsibilities

• Create rigorous problems with practical relevance and well structured mathematical reasoning.
• Design substantive challenges that reveal limits in model problem solving.
• Evaluate generated solutions using deep knowledge of the relevant mathematical field.
• Identify gaps and refine evaluations asynchronously with researchers and other experts.
• Keep all explanations mathematically correct, clear, and sufficiently detailed.

Background and skills

A master’s or PhD in Mathematics or a related discipline is required. Applicants need deep knowledge of algebra, calculus, statistics, or discrete mathematics and experience coding in Python, MATLAB, or Mathematica for research or applied work.

Fluent English, precise written explanations, and exceptional care with mathematical details are essential. You must be comfortable completing structured tasks independently.

Additional strengths

Annotation, data quality, or AI evaluation experience is helpful. Applied mathematics, modeling, computational research, explaining technical ideas to general audiences, and familiarity with machine learning are additional strengths.

Working arrangements

This is a remote hourly contract with 10 to 40 hours per week. Work is organized around independent assignments and a flexible schedule. Work can be completed asynchronously on your own schedule.

New research projects may offer continued assignments or contract extensions.
