Chemistry Researcher (Masters/PhDs)

The work

Develop demanding chemistry problems and evaluate how AI reasons through them. This remote hourly contract involves 10 to 40 hours per week and is suited to researchers, postdocs, and academics with advanced chemistry training.

Responsibilities

• Create problems grounded in practical organic, inorganic, physical, or computational chemistry.
• Solve and review difficult problem sets for scientific correctness and substantive depth.
• Identify ways to challenge and improve model reasoning about chemistry.
• Coordinate asynchronously with AI researchers and other subject experts.
• Maintain clear explanations, scientific rigor, and integrity across the completed work.

Background and skills

A master’s or PhD in Chemistry or a closely related field is required, with deep expertise in at least one of organic, inorganic, physical, or computational chemistry.

You need fluent English and the ability to explain complex concepts precisely in writing. The work calls for careful, systematic review and comfort working independently in a remote environment. Previous AI experience is unnecessary.

Additional strengths

Python experience or computational chemistry tools such as Gaussian, VASP, or ORCA are useful. Other welcome backgrounds include annotation, evaluation systems, scientific quality reviews, teaching, curriculum design, complex problem sets, and AI or machine learning concepts.

Working arrangements

This is a remote hourly contract with 10 to 40 hours per week. Work is organized around independent assignments and a flexible schedule. Assignments are task based and asynchronous.

Research projects may lead to continued work or contract extensions.
