Nuclear & Radiological Security Expert

The work

Help establish AI evaluation standards for nuclear safety, radiological security and nonproliferation. Contribute frameworks for responsible information handling and escalation using domain expertise. Previous AI experience is unnecessary.

• Set the scope and standards for evaluating nuclear and radiological safety, security and nonproliferation.
• Develop approaches that safely abstract sensitive or classified technical information.
• Define escalation thresholds and procedures for nuclear security concerns in research and operations.
• Advise on risk assessment benchmarks that maintain effective nonproliferation safeguards.
• Review and validate technical safety guidelines for model training.
• Work with specialists from other disciplines to protect national and global security while supporting legitimate science.
• Record sound practices and reasons for decisions involving nuclear information security and compliance.

Preferred experience and skills

• Preferred experience is at least five years in nuclear physics, radiological safety, safeguards or nonproliferation, with eight to twenty years ideal for senior contributors.
• An advanced degree, relevant certification or comparable operational nuclear or radiological experience.
• A record with government agencies, national laboratories, regulators or academic nuclear security and policy research.
• Thorough knowledge of international safeguards, nonproliferation frameworks and weapons relevant controls.
• Recognized credibility in nuclear or radiological safety communities.
• Clear communication of complex technical issues to varied audiences.
• Experience conducting or overseeing security evaluations, risk assessments or compliance procedures in sensitive technical settings.

This is a remote contractor engagement focused on nuclear and radiological evaluation safeguards.
