Direct natural conversational audio

Lead live recording sessions for a project collecting scripted and conversational speech. The resulting recordings help develop synthesized voices that sound like everyday conversation in AI products. Your task is to guide voice contributors so prepared material feels authentic and spontaneous.

Session responsibilities

• Coach performers through scenarios, helping them express dialogue naturally instead of sounding as though they are reading lines.
• Establish the scene quickly by explaining the people, setting and motivation, and improvise missing dialogue or context to keep the conversation moving.
• Adjust script wording when needed to make phrasing sound natural and true to the relevant region or dialect.
• Monitor recordings as they happen, correcting microphone technique, clarity, pace and unwanted background sound.
• Keep sessions on track toward recording targets while protecting the quality of the performance.
• Keep clear, organized records of script changes, performance adjustments and retakes.
• Help contributors feel comfortable and supported, including performers with little previous voice experience.

Required background

You need native fluency in the project's specified language and dialect, together with a good ear for colloquial speech. Relevant experience includes directing, coaching or producing voice or audio talent through voice direction, casting, podcast or audio production, dubbing or ADR, or theater direction.

• Give performers guidance that is specific, clear and practical to act on.
• Understand recording fundamentals, including microphone distance, plosive sounds, room noise and audio levels.
• Feel comfortable improvising and changing a script during a live session.
• Build rapport quickly and work well with performers whose experience levels vary.

Helpful additional experience

Improv, theater direction or acting coaching experience would be useful. Previous work directing first time or nonprofessional voice performers is also an advantage. Familiarity with recording software or DAWs such as Pro Tools, Adobe Audition or Reaper can help with checks of audio quality, but these preferred qualifications are not requirements.

Project arrangements

The opportunities are fully remote and organized by project, with flexibility to choose contributions that fit your availability and preferred level of involvement. Optional workshops cover AI and large language models, and coding experience is not needed. A global contributor community provides guidance and responsive support.

The initial expression of interest involves answering a few short questions for the contributor database.
