Mathematics Specialist (Masters/PhDs)

The work

Create rigorous mathematical tasks and assess AI solutions for correctness, clarity and depth. Contribute advanced subject knowledge to model training and evaluation without needing a previous AI background.

• Develop, solve and review challenging mathematical problems with practical relevance.
• Design structured problem statements using algebra, calculus, statistics, discrete mathematics or related expertise.
• Assess generated reasoning for soundness, precision and sufficient depth.
• Collaborate asynchronously with researchers and other specialists to improve model performance.
• Maintain mathematical rigor across every deliverable and manage independent task assignments.

Experience and skills

• A master’s degree or PhD in mathematics or a closely related field.
• Deep expertise in algebra, calculus, statistics or discrete mathematics.
• Comfort coding in Python, MATLAB or Mathematica for research or applied work.
• Meticulous checking and high standards for precision.
• Strong writing that clearly explains complex ideas, plus English fluency.
• Annotation, data quality or AI evaluation experience is preferred.
• Academic research, applied mathematics or quantitative work is useful.
• Curriculum, assessment or technical content development and familiarity with mathematical AI benchmarks are further advantages.

Working arrangements

This is an hourly contract for 10 to 40 hours each week, carried out fully remotely. Work independently and asynchronously on a flexible schedule. Further assignments or an extension may become available as new projects begin.
