Lean 4 Mathematical Formalization Expert

The work

Help improve mathematical AI reasoning by converting informal mathematics into machine verified Lean 4 proofs. Preserve the original meaning and logical structure while identifying assumptions and gaps that require expert judgment.

• Translate mathematical texts, research papers and exercises into valid Lean 4 code that compiles.
• Represent theorems, lemmas, propositions and proofs in precise formal terms.
• Check that code faithfully expresses the intended mathematical statement and argument.
• Review formalizations for correctness, internal consistency and logical validity.
• Identify ambiguity, unstated assumptions or missing reasoning in natural language mathematics.
• Build training datasets pairing human written mathematical material with formal Lean 4 versions.

Experience and skills

• Substantial practical Lean 4 experience producing correct, maintainable proofs.
• Strong foundations in mathematics, formal logic or verification.
• Confidence interpreting advanced mathematical writing and translating it into formal systems.
• Careful attention to detail and logical rigor, with interest in AI and automated reasoning.
• Experience with Coq, Isabelle, Agda or other formal systems is helpful.
• AI training, expert annotation or reasoning dataset work is useful additional experience.
• Formal methods research, proof assistants or academic mathematics and computer science research are advantages.

Working arrangements

The hourly contractor role is fully remote and offers control over your schedule and pace. Assignments and evaluation criteria are defined clearly. Strong contributors may be selected for longer engagements or advanced and leadership work.
