The voice study

Help improve voice assistant technology through a short recording study for children who speak French as their native language. Participants from different regions of France contribute their natural regional accents to the research.

This enrollment is specifically for children aged 7 to 17. A parent or legal guardian handles registration and the required parental consent.

What your child will record

• Short activation phrases commonly used with voice assistants.
• Scripted statements of the kind spoken during interactions with a voice assistant.
• Recordings made by following the supplied task instructions.

The estimated recording time is 30 minutes. The project is entirely remote, with recordings made using the project application on a smartphone.

Eligibility and guardian responsibilities

Your child must be between 7 and 17 years old, have been born in France and speak French natively. Native speakers from any region of France are eligible under the language requirement.

The parent or legal guardian must register each participating child, sign the parental consent form and have a smartphone available to download and use the recording application. Recruitment also considers the demographic groups needed for the research.

Recording setup

• Have access to a quiet indoor environment for recording.
• Record using either a wired headset or the device's microphone.
• Follow the provided recording instructions so the submission meets the project requirements.

Payment and quality review

Compensation is USD 58 per child for deliverables that are fully completed and accepted. Payment depends on that acceptance, rather than simply spending the estimated time on the task.

Every submission is reviewed against the project's requirements. The project team sends feedback once the quality review is complete.

Payment choices and timing

Choose bank transfer, PayPal or an electronic gift card according to your preference. The stated processing times begin after the completed work is accepted.

• Bank transfer: payment is received within 14 to 17 business days after acceptance. This method is available only for payments above USD 50.
• PayPal: payment is received within 10 to 15 business days after acceptance. Accept incoming payments so the funds are not returned.
• Electronic gift card: the card is sent by email.

Registration and parental consent are completed by the adult responsible for the child. Each child's payment remains subject to complete, accepted recordings.
