Medical coding content development

Create training material that helps AI understand practical medical coding. This contractor role is remote within the United States, and previous AI experience is not required.

Authoring and review tasks

• Write realistic coding scenarios, excerpts from clinical records and questions covering inpatient, outpatient and professional fee settings.
• Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, Current Procedural Terminology and HCPCS codes within the material.
• Develop answer keys explaining code selection, sequencing, modifiers and Present on Admission indicators, with support from official guidance and coding conventions.
• Build test cases and assessment rubrics at different levels of difficulty, including complicated or ambiguous documentation.
• Check and revise existing content for accuracy, clarity and consistency with current official ICD-10 guidance, AHA Coding Clinic and procedure coding guidance.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to clarify requirements, resolve ambiguity and protect data integrity, while providing feedback on difficult cases and workflow improvements.

Preferred qualifications

An active AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist, AAPC Certified Inpatient Coder or AAPC Certified Professional Coder credential is preferred. Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and Current Procedural Terminology should be supported by practical hospital, physician practice or coding audit experience.

Experience creating or reviewing coder education, training materials, audit findings or exam preparation content is useful. Access to current diagnostic and procedure code sets and official coding guidelines is also preferred.
