STEM Expert – Chemistry & Computational Chemistry (PhD)

The work

Support AI benchmarking by designing, reviewing and critiquing chemistry problems, workflows and chains of reasoning. Contribute practical research judgment so the evaluations reflect sound science and reproducible methods.

• Provide insight on reaction mechanisms, synthesis planning, spectroscopy, molecular simulation and electronic structure methods.
• Assess experimental protocols, simulation settings and software configurations for accuracy and reproducibility.
• Analyze chemical, spectroscopic and simulation data and make actionable recommendations.
• Help develop and validate chemistry related models and tools.
• Explain scientific concepts to technical and nontechnical collaborators.
• Document findings, methods and good practices so the wider research team can use them.

Areas of expertise

Deep expertise in one relevant area is sufficient. Areas include organic synthesis and mechanisms, inorganic and organometallic chemistry, physical and theoretical chemistry, analytical chemistry and spectroscopy, computational chemistry and molecular dynamics, cheminformatics and drug discovery, and materials or polymer chemistry.

Required qualifications

• A PhD in chemistry, computational chemistry, chemical biology, materials science or a closely related field.
• Practical research experience, including wet laboratory work for experimental specialties or extensive simulation work for computational specialties.
• Professional written and spoken English at C1 level or higher.
• Python proficiency or expertise with standard tools in your specialty, such as Gaussian, ORCA, Psi4, GROMACS, LAMMPS or RDKit.
• Strong quantitative and scientific reasoning, a record of rigorous problem solving and clear technical communication.

Preferred background and arrangement

Academic research experience as a postdoc, research scientist, faculty member or equivalent is strongly preferred. Publications, patents, open-source scientific software contributions, AI assisted chemistry or benchmarking experience, and work in drug discovery, reaction prediction or retrosynthesis are also helpful.
