Engineering problem development

Develop technical problems grounded in engineering work you have personally encountered in research or practice. This fully remote pilot runs for approximately two to three weeks and pays $80–95 per hour.

The intended project kickoff is November 8. The work focuses on realistic workflows and on distinguishing technically correct answers from answers that merely appear plausible.

Responsibilities

• Design problems using realistic constraints and supporting data from your engineering field.
• Supply the correct analysis and explain the reasoning through to the solution.
• Define objective correctness criteria that would allow another engineer to reach the same grading decision.
• Review problems written by other contributors for technical accuracy and sound methods.
• Flag ambiguous problems or work that cannot be graded reliably instead of submitting it as complete.

Qualifications

You must hold a PhD or be a PhD candidate in electrical, mechanical, chemical, industrial or aerospace engineering. A degree from a strong research institution is preferred.

Practical research or professional experience is required, with problems drawn from work you have done yourself. Your explanations should make a solution clear enough for another engineer to verify independently.

Publications or other demonstrated technical contributions are useful additions. Prior AI or large language model evaluation experience is helpful but not required.

Selection and timing

The process consists of an application with screening questions, an AI interview, a profile review and onboarding support. Completing the interview presents your expertise for client review.

Roles are typically filled within 48 hours, and contributors should be ready to begin immediately. If selected, you are expected to start the first task within 24 to 48 hours after onboarding is complete.
