This remote contractor role prefers US based candidates and also considers applicants worldwide with strong relevant experience.

Project design responsibilities

• Create practical engineering projects that combine mechanical design, analysis, manufacturing and testing with input from other relevant disciplines.
• Translate objectives into defined design requirements, operating constraints and acceptance criteria that can be measured.
• Break difficult engineering problems into connected assignments, identifying inputs, deliverables, dependencies and each expert's responsibilities.

Required experience

Substantial experience as a chief engineer, senior mechanical engineer or comparable technical leader is required. You must have led complex projects involving several engineering disciplines.

The role requires strong mechanical design and analysis skills, including design for manufacture and assembly. Experience verifying technical work through testing and investigating root causes is also essential, together with English proficiency of B2 or higher.

Preferred qualifications

A relevant master's degree or PhD in mechanical engineering or a related field can strengthen your application. Familiarity with CAD, finite element analysis or other engineering simulation tools is useful.

Preferred experience also includes taking projects from concept through detailed design, manufacturing, tests and delivery. Relevant environments include aerospace, automotive, robotics, industrial equipment, energy, medical devices and similarly complex engineering work.
