Chemistry research judgment

Help improve AI reasoning about research chemistry through expert review, precise problem design and meaningful tests of progress. The role is fully remote and intended for practicing specialists based in the United States.

Work you will lead

• Examine chemistry tasks and model answers for unrealistic mechanisms, reactions that cannot be carried out, errors in stoichiometry or thermodynamics, and incorrect interpretations of spectra.
• Judge whether a polished answer would withstand scrutiny from research peers.
• Develop clearly specified problems and rigorous reference answers grounded in real chemistry research practice.
• Build demanding problems and evaluation sets within your specialty to measure changes in model ability.
• Work with researchers and specialists in related disciplines to express expert judgment as clear criteria that others can learn and apply.

Research background

A doctorate in chemistry, chemical engineering or a closely connected discipline is required. You should hold a faculty position, serve as a principal investigator or staff or senior scientist, or have comparable senior research responsibilities at a university, national laboratory or research organization.

• Substantial specialization in at least one field, such as organic or synthetic chemistry, physical or computational chemistry, inorganic or materials chemistry, analytical chemistry, or chemical biology.
• A strong record of publications reviewed by scientific peers; competitive fellowships or awards are helpful additions.
• Practical experience working with large language models and the ability to distinguish valid reasoning from convincing errors.
• Strong writing skills and feedback that is precise, organized and easy to follow.
