Cinematography judgment for AI video

Help an AI laboratory evaluate whether generated footage preserves professional camera and lighting choices. The scope includes lens optics, sensor response, camera movement, motivated illumination, exposure and color across new video outputs.

Evaluation responsibilities

• Define practical quality criteria for camera and lighting work, assess existing tests and organize the different ways generated footage can fail.
• Find, create and curate reference examples that include both excellent execution and genuinely difficult camera or lighting situations.
• Test early model capabilities against those examples and review generated shots with detailed, actionable notes.
• Explain specific issues in lens choice, movement, illumination and exposure so researchers can understand the judgment.
• Help establish how human reviewers are selected and calibrated, and improve caption guidance so optical and lighting details are described accurately.
• Work with other experts to maintain consistent assessments.

Professional qualifications

At least 7 years in film, television or virtual production and credits on 2 or more professional films are required. Relevant backgrounds include director of photography or cinematographer; gaffer or chief lighting technician; camera operator, first assistant camera or digital imaging technician; and virtual production or CG lighting and camera layout supervision.

You should have a precise eye for optics, sensor behavior, the motivation of light, exposure and color spaces. Practical use of generative image or video tools is required to make your own comparison samples, with examples including Runway, Midjourney, Sora and Kling.

Reliable access to a calibrated 4K display is advantageous for detailed image inspection.

Employment and availability

This is a full time W2 role through an employer of record partner, with an opportunity to work within an AI laboratory’s extended workforce. Plan for approximately 40 hours each week during weekdays.

The employment partner administers payroll and benefits. Strong written communication is essential: you must translate visual observations into precise language for captions, review notes and evaluation templates.
