Character performance evaluation

Help an AI laboratory judge a model that transfers an actor’s performance into a new output. The aim is to preserve emotion, timing and the small physical choices that make the original performance convincing.

Expert responsibilities

• Define standards for faithful transfer of body mechanics, facial detail, timing and emotional intent, and identify gaps in current assessments.
• Review generated shots as you would in animation dailies, documenting precise observations that can guide improvements.
• Select reference performances ranging from straightforward acting to difficult examples that test the model’s limits.
• Help define the experience, scoring guidance and calibration required for human reviewers working at scale.
• Coordinate with other experts so quality judgments remain accurate and consistent.

Required animation experience

You need at least 10 years of hands on character animation focused on human or character acting, at Senior, Lead or Principal level. Credits should span several feature films, visual effects features or AAA game cinematics at established studios.

Examples of relevant production environments include Sony Pictures Imageworks, ILM, Animal Logic, Laika, Pixar, Disney, DreamWorks, Framestore, MPC, DNEG and Weta FX. You should be able to identify subtle expressions, lip synchronization, weight, timing and acting choices that distinguish authentic performance.

Facial animation experience is strongly preferred, along with recent work in Unreal or Unity, VR or XR, or performance capture workflows. Practical use of generative image and video tools such as Sora, Veo, Midjourney, Runway or Kling is required for creating comparison samples.

Employment and attendance

This is part time W2 employment through an employer of record partner, with the opportunity to work within an AI laboratory’s extended workforce. The partner administers payroll and benefits.

You must attend in person working sessions once or twice each month in Playa Vista, Los Angeles, or New York City. Clear written communication is essential for translating visual details into evaluation instructions and feedback.
