Day-to-day

• Draft and review government interest statements for federally funded inventions
• Provide strategic counsel on patent law, IP rights, and compliance with US federal regulations
• Handle IP disputes involving federal agencies, universities, and other stakeholders
• Advise clients on issues related to federal IP compliance and technology transfer
• Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications in the US and coordinate with outside counsel as needed
• Perform due diligence on IP portfolios and assess freedom-to-operate, patentability, and licensing risks
• Collaborate cross-functionally, delivering clear written and verbal guidance on complex legal issues

You bring

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited US law school and admitted to practice before the USPTO
• Expertise in US patent law and intellectual property rights, particularly in the federal sector
• Demonstrated experience with government interest statements and federal IP compliance
• Proven track record managing IP disputes between federal agencies, research institutions, and universities
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical legal concepts clearly
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in drafting legal documents and advising stakeholders
• Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to manage multiple complex projects in a remote environment

Bonus

• Experience advising on Bayh-Dole Act compliance or federal technology transfer regulations
• Background in a STEM field or previous work with technology-driven organizations
• Prior involvement in negotiating research or collaborative agreements with government entities
